As a Designer, I am constantly thinking about how to improve the status quo. I observe what already exist and think if this is still adequate. I will write down some ideas. Maybe people who work in this field can «steal» and realize such things. And of course sell them as their idea or tarn as an innovative students project. The list is not finished.
Urban Greening
Of course the city has to have places to rest body and the eye, so trees and plants are installed and planted. I guess a gardener will not often think about allergies, since he then would probably not work in this field. So: besides of thinking about the impact of global warming, they could also think about allergy potential of plants. Then choose greening accordingly. I hear people more and more complain about feeling the pollens, so, maybe this would be a good step to do. Visually and because of the smell I mostly like fir trees. But this is optional.
I was thinking about how it would be to plant a lot of maple trees, so we could start to harvest maple sirup. They give the best sugar in my opinion. Hmm?
Architecture
I was living in two new built houses so far, and some old buildings too. All of them flats, never a house. Most of them have balcony or terrace. There exist pollen grids for installing. They are ugly, never fit, look absolutely terrible from inside as from outside and if once installed can’t be removed that quick. One is forced to look through this. But does not really see anymore.
Instead of installing electronic blinds, which can easily be handled manually (I never got the idea of using electricity for this), electric pollen nets should be installed (or not electronically, but operated from the inside). Like this we would be able to close them before opening the window and open again when it’s closed. Also they should visually fit to the facade of the house. In complementary or similar colors, or with pattern, similar to church windows, or arabic grid-windows. The light would break beautifully in interesting colors or shadows and spend nice light inside the house.
They would also spend shadow from the increasing sun, which many people do not like. And of course, they offer protection against the increasing number of contagious mosquitoes.
Community living
Since many people no longer take care or clean their affairs when living in community buildings. It would also be an interesting idea to have one filter grid for into the tumble dryer per flat. Like that everyone could use its own filter grid with cat, dog and other hairs in it, or if sensible or allergic a cleaned one. Just some more plastic, to save the wellbeing of everyone.
Packaging Design
Please make sure, the art of process, heritage and ingredients are listed correctly and well readable on the physical package. Thank you!
Saving the earth
I don’t believe in selling foods from yesterday or reheating meals. In my opinion there was just made too much of it for no reason.
I see that currently, it is necessary for some people that they can eat outdoors/on the way. I guess the mensa, bakery or restaurant of tomorrow will not work the same as today. To save waste, it would be better to have a fixed schedule for who is where to eat. Similar to making a reservation or dining at a friend. Like this, less waste is produced and restaurants can plan ahead.
I don’t see the point of ordering food at home, where you have a kitchen, plates and cutlery. Except, we will no longer have a kitchen at home and will get served everyday. But I would not like to eat this, I guess. Of course community meals would save waste. But we would all have to eat what the weakest can, no? With add ons/toppings for the strong ones.
Food App
An app or robot that tells me which foods I should/can eat wouldn't help me, since the topic would be far too complex. Everyone has to try that out for themselves. Histamine and fructose levels, for example, are not tolerated equally well by everyone. Also concentration of pollen or the seasons depends on where you live or move around. As also the bodily constitution. Lists, books and articles on these topics can help provide guidance.
